OCD – Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

OCD is a mental disorder and many people all around the world suffer from it. The cause of this disorder is mostly unknown, but there are a few reasons why they can appear. People whom suffer from OCD have to repeat certain rituals or thoughts and it is exhausting over a long period of time. Because of my own OCD, I got known to many different people with different kinds of OCD’s. For example, there’s a woman in her mid-60s, and she had to pull her skin all the time. She also had an urge to clean herself and her house nonstop.  She’s fully recovered, and helps other victims in a support group. There’s this other woman, she could only leave her apartment after she cleaned herself and her flat several times. It took her about 6 hours just to get to the support group.

Many OCD-patients are embarrassed about their illness and so am I. I suffer from Trichotillomania for about three years now and it takes me a lot of courage to write that down and to make that fact public. Trichotillomania, also TTM, is quite uncommon, I’ve never met another person with this disorder and it drives me crazy. Right now, I’m just accepting my destiny, and we will see what happens next. But OCD isn’t fun, and It should be something to be embarrassed about, because it’s just as normal as a cold or some similar illness.
